Collect Gallery, özenle kurgulanmış fotoğraf dünyaları aracılığıyla tanıdık olanı yeniden düşünmeye davet eden iki sanatçı Nina Kovacheva ve Valentin Stefanoff’un eserlerini sunuyor.
İki seri birlikte, algıyı değiştirmenin bir yolu olarak fotoğrafçılığı araştırıyor ve görünüşlerin ötesine bakmaya ve günlük hayatta olağanüstü olanı yeniden keşfetmeye teşvik ediyor.
Nina Kovacheva, Smiles Giving, Tears Crying (2007) adlı serisinde, tanıdık nesnelerin, figürlerin ve sembollerin yer değiştirmesi ve yan yana getirilmesi yoluyla bir dizi rahatsız edici fotoğrafik tablo oluşturuyor. Doldurulmuş hayvanlar, bebekler, oyuncaklar, dini imgeler ve doğanın parçaları alışılmış bağlamlarından çıkarılarak beklenmedik ilişkilere sokuluyor.
Fotoğraflar, oyunbazlık ve rahatsız edicilik arasında gidip geliyor. İdealize edilmiş bir manzaraya karşı doldurulmuş bir cadı belirir ve sanatçının kendi eliyle yerinde tutulmasıyla yapaylığı ortaya konur. Plastik figürler, maddesellikleri neredeyse grotesk hale gelene kadar büyütülür; yüksek topuklu ayakkabılar ve kaslı erkek figürlerinden oluşan bir kompozisyon ise tanıdık bir kadınlık imajını tersine çevrilmiş bir güç sahnesine dönüştürür. Başka bir yerde, bir doğum sahnesi, bazıları kırık, bazıları düşmüş plastik oyuncakların kırılgan bir düzenlemesine indirgenir ve dikkati dini anlatıdan temsilin kurgusal doğasına kaydırır.
Kovacheva, bu düzenlemeler aracılığıyla anlamın kültürel semboller, sosyal gelenekler ve alışılmış görme biçimleri tarafından nasıl şekillendirildiğini inceliyor. Masumiyet, şiddet, cinsiyet, din, doğa ve arzu, istikrarsız kategoriler haline gelir ve anlamları yeni ve çoğu zaman rahatsız edici ilişkiler yoluyla değişir. Fotoğraflar, sabit yorumlar sunmak yerine, izleyiciyi tanıma ve huzursuzluk arasında bir denge kurmaya bırakır.
Kovacheva’nın açıkladığı gibi, “Günlük nesneleri, sembolleri veya durumları bağlamından kopararak, gözlemcide bir tür kaygı uyandırmayı, onları alışılmış durumlarından çıkarmayı amaçlıyorum.” Ortaya çıkan bozulma, alışılmış algıyı kesintiye uğratmanın ve farklı bir bakış açısı için alan açmanın bir yolu haline gelir.
Valentin Stefanoff’un Plastic Romanticism adlı fotoğraf serisi, bizi cansız maddenin gizli dünyasına götürüyor. Sanatçı, geleneksel ölçekleri alt üst ederek, büyük formun ötesine bakmamızı ve dikkatimizi, seçtiği belirli, izole detaylara odaklamamızı sağlıyor.
Bu hassas, büyük ölçekli görsel parçalar aracılığıyla, günlük dokular işlevsel anlamlarını kaybediyor ve şiirsel soyutlamalara dönüşüyor. Stefanoff, görsel alışkanlıklarımıza meydan okuyarak, yavaşlamamızı ve etrafımızdaki sessiz dünyanın mikro yapılarında beklenmedik, romantik bir güzellik bulmamızı sağlıyor.

About the artists
NINA Kovacheva is a French-Bulgarian artist. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, she lives and works in Paris, France.
She is an interdisciplinary artist. Her works cover the fields of photography, drawing, painting, objects, video and video installations. NINA focuses on comparing and contrasting different cultural models, looking for the points where they overlap and the hybrid forms this gives rise to.
Among the other prizes, NINA Kovacheva has been the annual UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts 2002.
